Kansas City 2.0
Inspired by my first Kansas City poster, I wanted to create a 2.0 version for a postcard invitation.
Sometimes inspiration is hard to find after leaving work. Why not create something that helps inspiration? Coffee it is, all day every day.

On Jan. 3, 1994, the first working day of the year, Burns & McDonnell officers and employee-owners gathered outside the world headquaters building as the officers burned the mortgage that allowed us to become an employee-owned compant. The burning signified the start of Burns & McDonnell as a debt-free, 100 perfect employee-owned company. Everyone celebrated the momentous occasion - and warmed up on a chilly day - with a bowl of hot chili served by the officers. The tradition has continured ever since.
Story time. Shortly after starting to work at Burns & McDonnell I was given an assignment that a lot of people didn't like to do. So they said give it to the new guy! After an hour of training on isometrics and how they are created with only Illustrator and Photoshop I was told good luck, this is due in two weeks. Challenge accepted.
Two weeks later, I am the go-to isometric guy in the office.
The people down in HR wanted something to show off to their officers and potential recruits. That something was this 18 page brochure that is filled with easy to read facts and information. From an Excel spread sheet to a final product is fun to see happen.
Being born an raised in Kansas City, you've seen where the city was and where it is going now. This city has captured my heart and passion with its deeply rooted arts, food, and culture. In the past five years the city has seem to transform into not only a great place to live but an amazing place to work and enjoy life. Sports, tech, and more art has cause the city to change over night. Thus my love for this city has increased tenfold.
Deep Space - Experimental
Sometimes you wonder if you can do cool design. Experimenting design is always a process that is fun whether it fails or not.
Is hand lettering getting a bit over done at the moment? Maybe. Do I enjoy learning a new craft? Absolutely. Did I pick up an pen and go "Wow, I am super good at this?" Heck no! After working on a few pieces and getting supplies to learn how to hand letter, I find great please of just sitting down and just making letter forms. You learn so much from just doing and trying. So many styles, a lot of paper and hours of trying to make your hands not shake or sweat is always a good day.
